Sustainable
Island
Goeree-Overflakkee

Hylife Innovations operates from Goeree-Overflakkee. This island is leading the way in the field of sustainability. For a start, by generating vast amounts of sustainable energy from wind, sun and tides. Now the energy production from these sources is increasing by the day, the time has come to incorporate this sustainable electricity in the daily lives of the island residents. On Goeree-Overflakkee, businesses, governments and knowledge institutes are working together on innovations that are indispensable to achieve the objectives of the Climate Agreement. No wonder then that Hylife Innovations feels at home on this Energy Island.

Green hydrogen economy

In time, not only will Goeree-Overflakkee produce an excess of electricity, but the island will also form the foreland for the Krammer wind park in the immediate vicinity. No fewer than 29 local, national and international partners are currently working together to develop a green hydrogen economy on the island. Divided over eight projects within the H2GO hydrogen covenant, they are developing methods to produce sustainable hydrogen. These include mobility, heating for houses and the production of sustainable fertiliser. In short: as a sustainable frontrunner, the island also functions as a testing ground for the rest of the Netherlands.

Havenstadt and the Innovathuis

Making the existing houses sustainable is one of the eight sub-projects within H2GO. The plans to use green hydrogen in the heart of Stad aan ’t Haringvliet as an alternative for natural gas are already well advanced. Hylife Innovations is closely connected with the developments in this area. Even if only because the newest residential district, Havenstadt, was developed by Wonen op Flakkee. This district also houses Hylife Innovations’ Innovathuis. The first residential house in the Benelux that produces and uses hydrogen.
